Sustainable LivingIt falls to all of us to point the way forward with a more sustainable lifestyle to save our planet – most pressingly from global warming.Everyone can make a difference in the way we heat and light our house, power our appliances or vehicles, use water and get rid of waste water, recycle or compost garbage. Falling Water Lodge is designed as a passive solar house. It is facing south, sits in a sheltered position and is designed to take maximum advantage of the heat from the sun. The hot water comes from two solar panels, mounted behind the house. We have a small hydro power generator, with water from our waterfall generating power for electricity and heating water for central heating. Central heating is supplemented by a wood burner and a condensing boiler. Not everyone have a waterfall nearby, but power can also be generated by a windmill and photovoltaic panels. Our car is powered by biodiesel, sourced from recycled vegetable oil and made into biodiesel by a local company in Killarney. |
